What a division does
In Pakistan, divisions are the tier between the province and the districts. Each is headed by a Divisional Commissioner who coordinates the district administrations below. The system was abolished in the local-government reforms of 2000 and was revived in 2008. Sargodha has been a divisional headquarters since 1960 apart from the period without divisions.
For residents, this means some services are organised at division level from Sargodha, including the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, which handles secondary and higher secondary examinations for the area, and divisional-level government offices and hospitals.
Geography and neighbours
The division borders the Gujrat, Mianwali, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad divisions, and its terrain ranges from the irrigated farmland around Sargodha to the drier country near Bhakkar and Mianwali along the Indus. Only 28.61 per cent of people live in urban areas, so it is a mostly rural division.
Assembly seats
The division has 11 National Assembly constituencies: five in Sargodha (NA-82 to NA-86), two in Khushab (NA-87, NA-88), two in Mianwali (NA-89, NA-90) and two in Bhakkar (NA-91, NA-92). For the Punjab Assembly, Sargodha has ten seats (PP-71 to PP-80), Khushab four (PP-81 to PP-84), Mianwali four (PP-85 to PP-88) and Bhakkar five (PP-89 to PP-93), which is 23 in total.
