Shahpur Tehsil

Shahpur Tehsil occupies the western portion of Sargodha District, bordering Khushab District and serving as a crucial administrative unit with deep historical significance. The tehsil takes its name from the ancient Shahpur settlement, which has evolved from a historic trading post into a modern tehsil headquarters managing 31 union councils across a diverse landscape of agricultural plains and semi-arid zones.

The tehsil's geography presents unique agricultural challenges and opportunities. While canal-irrigated areas support traditional cropping patterns of wheat, rice, and citrus, the western reaches rely on tube well irrigation and rain-fed farming. This agricultural diversity has fostered adaptive farming practices and livestock rearing as complementary income sources. The Punjab Livestock Department actively supports dairy development programs targeting small and medium farmers.

Shahpur town serves as the commercial hub for surrounding agricultural communities, hosting weekly markets that draw traders and farmers from across the tehsil. The main bazaar features wholesale grain merchants, agricultural input dealers, and retail shops serving daily consumer needs. The town's infrastructure includes paved roads connecting to Sargodha City (approximately 40 km east) and onwards to Khushab and Mianwali districts.

Historical structures in the tehsil reflect its colonial-era establishment, including heritage buildings housing government offices and educational institutions. The civic infrastructure has modernized significantly with improved road networks, rural electrification, and expanding mobile telecommunications coverage enabling digital service access.
